Launched in September of 2014, the Murdoch Music Podcast Season 1 is your first peak behind the scenes of the Canadian music and entertainment industry – from industry moguls, up-and-coming mavericks and the  entertainers and musicians themselves.

Episode 1

Tim Fraser

Synopsis: In this week’s podcast episode, Tim Fraser, decided to kick things off by putting himself in the hot seat and spilling the beans on his early foray into the musical world and the blood sweat and very manly tears that went into building his career in the music industry. Synopsis: Tim chats with Christina Cassaro, formally with Factor, and now with Arts & Crafts artist management division. They discuss the granting system in Canada, Tim discovers that he’s allowed to tell people that he’s on the Factor jury, and they talk about her work with the Juno winning group A Tribe Called Red (Oct. 14, 2014). Synopsis: Tim dials up Paquin senior booking agent Grant Paley, to discuss his beginnings as a bedroom DJ, his time on the road with the band Moses Mayes and what it’s like to book major tours across the country for acts like Said The Whale, Old Man Luedecke and Royal Canoe. Mike Roth, Music Industry Arts, Fanshawe College

Synopsis: Canadian music industry veteran Mike Roth. Mike talks about his beginnings as a staff song writer for Sony ATV Publishing, to working as the head of A+R for Sony Music Canada where he was instrumental in the discovery and development of such great Canadian acts as Our Lady Peace, Amanda Marshal, and Chantal Kreviazuk. Justin Bisaillon, Ole Music Publishing

Synopsis: Justin Bisaillon, formerly the Director of Finance and Operations at True North Records/Linus Entertainment talks about his move to Ole Music Publishing. The boys discuss how Justin started working for Canada’s oldest indie label and the experience of working together.  DOWNLOAD

Nova Browning Rutherford, Life Coach

Motivational speaker, coach and an ex-PR maverick, Nova Browning Rutherford has helped “spin” for some of the largest names in rap (what up Kanye?!). Nova recounts the path of her career and reveals what has led her independent success. DOWNLOAD

Tanya Chopp and Tim Fraser

Synopsis: Back by (Tim’s) popular demand is The Brain to Tim’s Pinky, Tanya Chopp. They talking about summer music festivals, grant application deadlines and how to best present your band/music professionally to potential buyers, specifically in the campus market. They also discuss Tim’s new client The Monsters of Schlock, and Tanya regales us  with tales of growing up in northern Ontario, including what it was like to have a Kung-Fu master for a father. Synopsis: Tim makes the snap decision to secretly record an interesting conversation, while having sexy drinks in a hotel room with friends Jason Arkley and Tamara Kater.  They get into the folk festival scene and the current landscape of the folk world.  They also try to figure out the definition of the word “folk”, much to the chagrin of Tamara.
